Growing out of Dizzy Gillespie’s Big Band rhythm section, The Modern Jazz Quartet carved a niche in intersecting baroque counterpoint alongside strong blues groundwork. Alternating tracks between rearrangements of Johann Sebastian Bach pieces and original blues compositions (in the following keys spelling out “B-A-C-H”), BLUES ON BACH seamlessly represents the band’s entertaining yet enjoyable ability in blending the seemingly different genres.
